Damon Braces (Self Ligating)

What is Damon Braces?

Damon Braces

Have you heard of Damon braces before? Damon braces is probably one of the most popular brand in self-ligating braces. It has a patented slide door bracket design to allow dentist to open and close when changing arch wire. So what so special about this? Let’s find out more about this orthodontic system.

How it works?

Damon vs Conventional

Firstly, conventional brackets use elastic tie to hold the wire on to the bracket. In other words, due to the nature of elastic degradation, these ties must be changed at monthly interval and it can be an uncomfortable experience.

In contrast, Damon Braces offers a sleeker, faster, and more comfortable treatment option. This self ligating system allows wire to slide passively in the brackets with less friction and hence, less discomfort. Besides, the smaller and smoother bracket design is far less noticeable and makes oral hygiene easier.

In addition, low-friction passive ligation Damon system allow teeth to move quickly and more naturally with optimum treatment efficiency.3 As a result of its high-tech thermal treated shape memory arch wires, Damon system delivers optimum forces at body temperature to achieve superb clinical outcomes.

Hygienic and easier to clean

Above all, Damon braces is scientifically proven to trap less plaque and easier to clean thanks to its smooth design without elastic ties.4 Therefore, patient can maintain better gum healthy and less likely to have decay during the braces journey.

Less extraction?

Moreover, the unique broad arch shape in Damon arch wires allows arch expansion, reducing buccal corridor and creating beautiful smile. For this reason, in some borderline cases, the space gained from expansion may eliminate need of tooth extraction prior to braces. However, this may not applied to protrusive profile especially among Asians.

Cost of Damon Braces

Damon braces usually cost just slightly more than conventional braces due to its more advance high tech arch wires and complicated bracket design.  However, the difference is not big and almost negligible if divided into monthly instalments. Considering the benefits that you get in the long braces journey, it appears to be a worthy option.
