Science
Teeth whitening using hydrogen peroxide is a complex process. First, whitening gel containing hydrogen peroxide is broken down into active oxygen and subsequently penetrate into tooth structure. This active oxygen will break down the stain particles and thus brighten the shade of the teeth. The tooth structure remains unchanged. So in this process no increase or reduction in thickness of tooth structure occur. Therefore, teeth whitening is a safe and conservative cosmetic procedure.
What so special about Zoom whitening gel is that it contains ferrous gluconate which acts as a photo catalyst.1 When applied onto the tooth surface, the reaction rate of the hydrogen peroxide can be accelerated significantly by ferrous gluconate and blue light through the Philips Zoom! Whitespeed light technology. As a result, significant shade improvement can be achieved in short treatment time.
Meanwhile, it is found that infra red light used in some other systems only increase the temperature but not the reaction rate through photochemistry. Raising the temperature is inefficient, leading to accelerated exothemic decomposition of the gel.

First, our dentist will conduct a comprehensive assessment to see if you are suitable for Zoom Whitening. Usually, regular teeth cleaning is recommended before the whitening appointment if your last scaling and polishing was overdue.

Procedure
Firstly, the procedure begins with short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving only the teeth are exposed. After that, our dentist will apply the whitening gel and activate it with the blue LED light. Each cycle will take 15 minutes. During this time, you can sit down comfortably and listen to music or watch TV. Then, new gel will placed after each cycle for optimum result. After 3-4 cycles, the lips and gum protection will be removed.

Post Operative Care after Zoom Whitening
Patchy spot
The whitening process will continue for 48 hours after treatment. Sometimes, patchy spot may occur after whitening due to temporary dehydration of teeth. It will disappear in a few days after treatment.
Sensitivity
For the first 24 hours, some patients might experience tooth sensitivity or pain. This is normal and usually mild. You can apply the ACP Relief gel on the affected teeth to reduce the symptom. Besides, you can also use the desensitizing toothpaste to brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes.
For the next 48 hours, we recommend you to avoid :
- Red Wine
- Coffee
- Tea
- Smoking / tobacco product
- Dark sauces
- Dragon fruit and berries that can stain
However, if you accidentally take any of these, it is advisable to rinse your mouth afterward.
